Presidio of San Francisco - General Park Information

For 218 years, the Presidio served as an army post for three nations. World and local events, from military campaigns to the rise of aviation, from World Fairs to earthquakes, left their mark. Come enjoy the history and beauty of the Presidio. Explore centuries of architecture. Reflect in a national cemetery. Walk through an historic airfield, forests, or to beaches, and admire spectacular vistas.

The geography, climate and geology of the Presidio result in a complex natural history and a rich diversity of life. Restoration and expansion of these natural areas is very important to maintaining biotic diversity and a major part of the National Park Service's mission at the Presidio. Come explore plants and animals threatened by the urbanization of the San Francisco Peninsula!
